INTERVENTION TITLE: Year One Phonics Intervention with Teacher

 

Staff: KL

RELATES to Curriculum: Short 5/10 min bursts not impacting on curriculum

ENTRY CRITERIA

Eligible for Pupil Premium, identified as at risk of not passing phonics check.

DESCRIPTION

Working with our PP teacher, these children have short bursts of phonics practise.

EXIT CRITERIA

Pupil is no longer at risk of not passing check

HARD DATA MEASURE OF IMPACT

  • 100% of pupils moved up at least one phonics band.
  • 92% of pupils moved up at least one reading band.

SOFT DATA MEASURE OF IMPACT

  • Pupils are beginning to apply phonics to their spelling as well.
  • More confidence reported during phonics lessons.

PUPIL VOICE

  • 100% of pupils enjoy the intervention, and feel that it has helped them get better at reading in class.

INTERVENTION TITLE: Year Two Project X

RELATES to Curriculum: Follows reading scheme

ENTRY CRITERIA

Eligible for pupil premium, not passing phonics check, low reading attainment.

DESCRIPTION

Working with our PP teacher, these children have short bursts of reading following the ‘Project X’ reading scheme.

EXIT CRITERIA

Pupil is no longer at risk of not passing phonics rescreening check. Pupil has made progress with reading in line with their peers.

HARD DATA MEASURE OF IMPACT

  • 93% moved up a phonics band.
  • Over half of pupils receiving this intervention moved up at least one reading level.

SOFT DATA MEASURE OF IMPACT

  • Progress is apparent in reading records.
  • Pupils are more confident to read.
  • Pupils comprehension skills have developed.

PUPIL VOICE

  • 100% of pupils enjoy the intervention, and feel that it has helped them get better at reading in class.

INTERVENTION TITLE: Small lessons

RELATES to Curriculum: Follows weekly planning and topics.

ENTRY CRITERIA

Low entry baseline to Year 2. Gaps in basic skills in English.

DESCRIPTION

English lessons in a small group with 2 experienced staff, focussing on basic skills in English.

EXIT CRITERIA

Pupils will develop their basic skills in English. Pupils will be more confident.

SOFT DATA MEASURE OF IMPACT

  • Pupils’ work shows progress in all cases.
  • Children are more confident and half developed self –esteem.

Pupil is on track to pass rescreening

  • 94% of pupils moved up at least one phonics band.
  • Over half moved up a reading record

  • More confidence reported during phonics lessons.
