In March 2017, some of our School Council members visited a Singing Cafe which is held at Sundon Park Baptist Church. The cafe is run by volunteers and it supports people who suffer from dementia and also supports their families. We were invited to visit because the Singing Cafe is one of the local good causes that the School Council is fundraising for.
Robbie, Evie, Mrs Miller and Mrs Walsh, were the representatives from Cheynes who took part in the visit. We were warmly welcomed into the Singing Cafe and were offered a drink and some cake, which we gladly accepted.
There was music playing and some people were already up and dancing, while others were quite happy to sit and nod their heads or tap their feet. Then the real fun began, when we were all invited to get up and dance along with some action songs! Although Robbie and Evie recognised a few of the songs, Mrs Miller and Mrs Walsh knew them all! Robbie and Evie played along on some musical instruments too.
After a while, it was time for some joke telling. Robbie tried really hard to guess the punchlines of the jokes! After a bit more dancing, it was time for us to leave. We promised to visit again, perhaps bringing our own dance routines and jokes next time.
It was obvious to see how much people got from using the cafe. We asked them how our fundraising efforts would benefit them and they said that they would gratefully receive a contribution towards new mugs and tables.
Thank you to Robbie and Evie for representing our school so well and thank you to all the volunteers and members of the Singing Cafe for making us feel so welcome.
